#SASForumUK metacoda booth - paul demonstrating

Imagine saving a few hours a day in your SAS admin work!

“How much time does Metacoda save you per week?”

#SASForumUK Iain Adamson presentation tweet

This question was asked of Iain Adamson from ScottishPower following his presentation, “From cottage industry to critical system! How Metacoda software enables productivity as your SAS platform becomes business critical”, which he presented with Michelle Homes from Metacoda at SAS Forum UK on 25th June.

Iain’s response – “while the time varies, it can be a few hours a day” – certainly seemed to impress the audience. (Not such a surprise for us though, given that we’ve been helping SAS administrators to be more productive since 2007 🙂)

Many thanks to Iain and his manager, Duncan Bain, for enthusiastically sharing their Metacoda software journey, and highlighting a few of their favourite tools:

  • Metacoda Password Encoder – Easily creates encoded/encrypted passwords without requiring access to a SAS coding interface. This helps to ensure there are no plain text passwords in the production environment.
  • Metacoda ACT Reviewer – Allows admins to quickly see the Access Control Templates, how they’ve been defined, where they have been applied, and how they may have been protected. Warning indicators identify potential issues where deviations from recommended practices have occurred.
  • Metacoda Identity Sync – ScottishPower believe the Metacoda Identity Sync Plug-in was the only practical way for them to on-board their users to the SAS platform with their Active Directory profiles.
  • Metacoda User Reviewer – Provides a comprehensive, whole-of-server view of a selected user. Being able to see the identity hierarchy in a tree view is very helpful and saves time.
  • Metacoda Identity Permissions Explorer – With just a few clicks, generate a report of what a user has access to. ScottishPower was able to review its effective permissions across multiple objects (folders, libraries, stored processes, reports etc), and be confident that their SAS metadata security model was as expected.

Metacoda Social - SAS Forum UK 2019

“We are witnessing a renewed focus on data and analytics, driven by the combination of increased computing power, a more connected world and more powerful technologies, like artificial intelligence, computer vision, natural language processing and machine learning.”

We certainly agree with these words from the SAS Global Forum 2019 (SASGF) opening address by Dr Jim Goodnight, SAS Institute CEO.

Metacoda SASGF 2019 stand - many thanks!

With the technological advancements available on the SAS Viya platform, we’ve noticed an increased uptake and Metacoda is also continually investigating and prototyping what’s possible with the SAS Viya APIs.

Please make sure you keep the feedback coming about our products and what you want to see in them; we find the feedback essential in delivering products to help you manage and optimize your SAS platform.

As always, thanks for being part of such a supportive and interactive SAS community; we look forward to seeing many of you in Birmingham at SAS Forum UK on the 25th June.

Cheers,
Michelle

Metacoda koalas: Howdy #SASGF! #metacodaInDallas

As we’ve noted before, the SAS administrator’s role can be cherished, admired, forgotten, loathed or even ignored – sometimes all in the course of a single day!

However, there is one thing that remains constant: the success of SAS Analytics relies on how well the platform performs.

Metacoda: SAS Global Forum 2019 Sponsor

So, let’s be grateful to all the SAS admins out there – when our SAS analytics stop working, the SAS admins certainly don’t!

One of the things we love most about SAS Global Forum (SASGF) is the way it brings together the SAS admins and wider community to learn, share and connect so everyone can keep their SAS platforms running smoothly.

Hope to see you all at SASGF in Dallas!

Cheers,
Michelle

Being a curiosity FAN!

If you’re a fan of curiosity, you’re bound to be a fan of SAS FANS (Four Associations of Nordic SAS users).

SAS FANS are known for hosting inspiring and educational events. Having presented at an Oslo FANS meeting a few years ago (see 12th Oktober 2015), Metacoda has experienced the high level of enthusiasm, connectedness and support within the SAS Nordic community.

We’ll soon be heading north again to attend and sponsor the SAS Nordic Forums (#SASNF) – how could we possibly resist with the enticing theme of ‘Be Curious’!

Have your say today!

As Hanlie Erwee (Customer Advocacy Manager) promised at the Australian SAS user group meetings last year, the SAS user survey is now ready and waiting for your input.

Please take a few minutes to contribute and vote about what you want for future SAS Australia events and learning.

Personally, we’d love to see a continuation of in-person events and SAS Australia Forum again soon.

Having attended many SAS forums and conferences around the world, the events that stand out are the ones where users are most connected, valued, and open to sharing.

The last SAS Australia Forum was in 2013 – just imagine how great it would be to get together again with all the comradery, support and investment that we’ve seen grow in recent years.

So, think about where you are in your career as a SAS user and your next steps.

We certainly find that being involved in the wider SAS community is valuable for us both personally and professionally. Here are a few tips from Michelle if you’d like to get more involved with the SAS community online at communities.sas.com. Read more

Metacoda Koala Christmas social image

Sending festive cheer for the end of the year

Metacoda Koala Christmas social image

As 2018 comes to an end, we get great pleasure from reflecting on all the people who play a special role in our lives – our family, our friends, our colleagues – and, of course, our great big global SAS community, who are often like an extended family for us.

Thank you, as always, for your support and we look forward to a happy and healthy new year together in 2019.

Meanwhile, we wish you and your loved ones the best present of all: to be able to spend time together enjoying life.

For our family, that will involve air conditioning, the beach and swimming pools as we try to cope with the Australian heat, although we suspect things might be a little different in the northern hemisphere. :-)

So regardless of how you’re spending your holiday season, we hope it’s full of festive cheer loaded with peace, joy and love!

Cheers,
Michelle

Metacoda Koalas Gratefulness

Metacoda Koala Family - About Us

G’day!

As the year comes to an end, we wanted to say a special great big koala thanks to our less-furry friends for all your support!

We also wanted to show you the following video we made about our adventures in recent years. We’re a bit unusual in our love of adventure given that our real-live koala cousins in Australia don’t like to venture far from their favourite eucalypt tree (since it’s the only food they eat!).

We hope the clip brings back some happy memories and puts a smile on your face. Read more

SAS Admin Community and Metacoda Koalas

SAS Admin community: Have you joined your tribe?

SAS Admin Community and Metacoda Koalas

The SAS Administrator’s role is at times cherished and other times admired, forgotten, loathed or even ignored – sometimes all in the course of a single day!

However, there is one thing that remains constant: the success of SAS Analytics relies on how well the platform hums along.

If there are issues with, for instance – performance, tuning, connection, or security; everyone will want to know you. Some SAS administrators have likened the role to that of a cleaner. You’re at the front of everyone’s minds when there’s a mess to be cleaned up, but not given much thought when things are spotless the rest of the time. As SAS analytics expert, Gerhard Svolba, outlines in his blog post, A data scientist, does not make a machine learning model – it’s a team effort.

So, let’s be grateful to all the SAS admins out there – when our SAS analytics platform (services, servers, networks, and databases etc) stop working, the SAS admins certainly don’t! Read more

Our European Analytics Intelligence Adventure

In May we wrote about how much we were looking forward to Embracing the Analytics Economy in Europe. Well, the trip sure lived up to our expectations!

Over four weeks we travelled to seven countries, sponsored six SAS Forums and user conferences, attended a SAS Business Forum, and visited the SAS office in Dublin. We enjoyed every minute of it! We loved being part of the SAS ecosystem of customers, partners and employees, and embracing all the learning, sharing and inspiration. There were a few times when we wished we had our very own real time translator; however, even when we didn’t fully understand the language, the stories of analytics success were still loud and clear.

Inspiration and creativity

Our journey gave us the opportunity to hear many inspirational speakers share their thought leadership and experiences using SAS software to solve business challenges.

A particularly thought-provoking presentation for us was by Martha Rehnberg from Dare Disrupt at the SAS Business Forum Oslo. Read more
