Experience Your New Possible – What’s Your Journey?

We’ve recently returned from the beautiful cities of Nieuwegein, Brussels, Paris and Copenhagen where we were sponsors at four European SAS Forums.

As always we had a fantastic time being part of the SAS community, and we definitely embraced the theme “Experience Your New Possible”!

As with SAS Global Forum 2017, the events boasted thousands of attendees, analytics storytelling, data visualization, data management, technology, leadership and socialness.

Many thanks to SAS forum organisers for the sponsorship opportunities, and to our customers, partners and community for your support and friendship.

Helping to keep your SAS platform secure

Amidst the many Tweets and selfies, the events were full of great opportunities to talk to SAS customers about platform security. In particular, at SAS Forum France, Michelle Homes (Metacoda) and Gregory Becquembois (Decision Network) were excited to be interviewed by Elisabeth Ziegler on our partnership and how Metacoda products can help to keep SAS platforms secure. You can see the recording on YouTube.

Four events in seven days!

With four jam-packed SAS Forums, it sure was a busy and rewarding week! Use the table below to take your own quick journey via Tweets, videos and presentations/summaries.

Metacoda: a SAS Global Forum 2017 sponsor

We enjoyed being a sponsor at SAS Global Forum (SASGF) last month and meeting so many SAS customers at the Metacoda stand. Please read our SASGF blog post about our conference experience (including the Metacoda koalas). If we missed seeing you and you’d like to have a web demonstration on keeping your SAS platform secure, please contact us – we’d love to hear from you!

SAS European Forum Recap – thanks!

You may recall that in our last blog post, the Metacoda koalas shared their excitement about an upcoming trip attending and sponsoring SAS events in Europe.

Metacoda G'Day!

Well, we’re pleased to report that the trip was a great success; the koalas had a wonderful adventure and we had a blast meeting up with our customers, partners, SAS community members and friends.

Friendly feedback

Thanks to everyone who visited our stands at recent events. It was particularly inspiring to hear feedback about the ways that Metacoda software is helping people around the world, for instance:

Message from our Metacoda Koalas

Metacoda Blog Save the Koala Banner

G’day Metacoda followers,

It’s the Metacoda koalas here!

You’ve probably seen us at a Metacoda stand, on social media, or mentioned at the end of a blog post… But we thought it was time to do our very own blog post so we can get to know each other a little better.

We’d like to start by telling you a bit about our two favourite things (besides eating gum leaves and sleeping, of course!).

Helping koalas

Our first favourite thing is helping our real koala friends.
In particular, we like to support the work of the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF), who are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. They work really hard to protect koalas and their habitat, and they are even lobbying to introduce a Koala Protection Act similar to the Bald Eagle Act (enacted in the US in 1942).

And did you know that September is Save the Koala Month (#STKM2016)?

So what better time to get involved with AKF – you can visit their website to:

  • purchase merchandise
  • make a donation
  • plant a tree
  • adopt a koala (you can’t take it home with you, but you can take one of us home if you want!)

Alternatively, you can chat to our Metacoda humans, Michelle or Paul, about how to get involved. They are really big koala fans (just as we’re really big Metacoda fans)!

Which leads us to our other favourite thing…

Meeting SAS users and spreading the message about Metacoda

Our other ‘favourite thing’ is travelling the world meeting SAS users and spreading the message about Metacoda.

We’ll be setting off later this month with Metacoda, to sponsor and present at a few SAS events in the UK and Europe in September and October. We’ll be sharing Read more

Catch the #SASchat Twitter chatter bug

Twitter chat

Imagine having a conversation with your peers, colleagues and friends in short 140-character bursts. Not possible you say? Well imagine these people are not even in front of you but on the other side of the world, in a different time zone?

In the world before telephones or internet, this would have seemed a far-fetched fantasy.

Today, however, Twitter allows users to communicate in exactly this way; with short 140-character messages called ‘tweets’.

A particularly exciting and growing area of the Twitter platform is Twitter chat, which is essentially a live Twitter event, focused around a particular topic.

Joining a Twitter chat is a great way to Read more

Be a SAS community ‘pen pal’

Years ago… in the world before internet, I had a pen pal who lived in England (it wasn’t Paul!). It was an exciting experience sharing stories over perfume-scented, floral stationery. While I had an assortment of fine stationery for different occasions, the extra special stationery was always spared for letters to my English friend.

Our “chats” involved describing events in our lives, answering questions, and asking new questions. With snail mail, the delay between exchanges could be weeks or months; however, the thrill of receiving a letter from the other side of the world was always worth the wait. Over the years the exchange of letters became less frequent and eventually faded away, but I always cherish the experience of having a pen pal as fun and rewarding.

Today, the floral stationery has been replaced by screens, and the perfumed smell has been replaced by notification alerts, emojis and images. Instead of one letter-writing pen pal, I now have many digital pen pals; and, although different in many ways, the thrill and excitement continues.

While the most obvious difference is the sheer speed of the exchange (a delay of even 24 hours and we’re wondering what is wrong!), the real advantage for me is the ability to easily find new groups of ‘pals’ who share my interests, particularly in the SAS community.

Being an enthusiastic SAS® user since 1996, I’ve always enjoyed attending SAS events to present, learn, share and network. Back in the ’90s, it was a real treat to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who Read more

Danke für das SAS Forum Deutschland (#SASF16)

  • A relaxing garden-inspired conference design, combined with Bonn’s modern World Convention Centre, created a perfect setting for the SAS Forum Deutschland in April. Add in an impressive program, and it’s no surprise that the forum attracted 1,100 in-person attendees and an additional 1,015 virtual visitors.

We were pleased to once again be a sponsor at SAS Forum Deutschland and, although the sessions were in German, Michelle was able to attend and share her perspectives using the conference app, Twitter and Instagram.

  • Michelle Homes Tweet
  • datakadabra tweet

  • The SASF16 app – with its built-in activity stream linked to the presentations – made it extremely easy to rate, review, and post photos during the conference. It was also a great tool for participants to see snippets of parallel sessions and engage with fellow attendees. Michelle was one of the top 5 users, and was excited to win a fitness tracker, just for doing what she loves! Photos posted by Michelle have been included in the Metacoda SAS Forum Deutschland Facebook album, if you’d like to take a look (don’t forget to tag yourself).

Metacoda Koala Adventure SAS Forum Deutschland (#SASF16)

As always, a highlight for us was simply being part of the SAS community, meeting existing and potential customers, and receiving first-hand feedback about our products. Interestingly, quite a few people attending SAS forums are not yet SAS customers, but are there to find out more and determine if it is the platform for them. As SAS enthusiasts, we often find ourselves singing the praises of SAS, and enjoying the opportunity to share our experiences and promote resources such as SAS Technical Support, SAS Support Community which includes a Community deutschsprachiger SAS-Anwender und -Programmierer: CoDe SAS German, SAS blogs and SAS social channels.

SAS Forum Deutschland (#SASF16) dessert!

Over all, thank you to everyone for hosting such a welcoming and delicious (did you try the dessert brownies?!) SAS Forum Deutschland… until our next encounter ‘Auf Wiedersehen’!

P.S. For more information about the forum, visit the “Rückblick” (Review) containing copies of the presentations, videos and photos.
